French Assembly Member Aurélien Troeau has expressed deep concerns over the details of the 2025 budget, calling it the “worst budget in the last 25 years.” As a member of the Assembly and President of the National Assembly’s Economic Affairs Committee, Troeau made these remarks in a statement on January 31st. Following a commission meeting which included seven Assembly members and seven senators, a balanced draft of the 2025 financial bill was prepared. Troeau stated that this draft is “even worse than the government’s previous proposed budgets.”
According to Troeau, the current budget has reduced public spending by six billion euros, which is 23 billion euros less than last year’s budget. He further explained that this budget will have a negative impact on people’s daily lives, stating, “It will make people’s lives very difficult.” Troeau specifically pointed out a reduction in funds for public schools. He also expressed concerns about the environment, noting a two billion euro cut in environmental projects in a country facing extreme weather conditions.
While acknowledging the importance of reducing state losses, Troeau warned that this budget could lead to further damages. He emphasized that the government has not made efforts to collect more taxes from the wealthy, which is a key solution to the issue. Troeau mentioned that a “nearly full group of new public opposition” is preparing to vote against the budget. If the Socialist Party participates in approving the budget, their position may weaken. Troeau stated his determination to present a program in the Assembly that improves people’s lives, opposing this budget and highlighting the risks it poses to people’s lives while pointing out opportunities for improvement within it.
