Lahore has cemented its status as a beacon of security in South Asia, earning a coveted spot among the world’s safest cities in the authoritative Numbeo Crime and Safety Index 2026. The latest data reveals a significant improvement in public safety, positioning the Pakistani cultural capital ahead of several global metropolitan giants.
Crime Index Drops as Safety Perception Rises
According to the mid-2026 report, Lahore’s crime index fell to 36.2, a notable decrease from the 36.8 recorded in mid-2025. Concurrently, the city’s safety index climbed from 63.2 to 63.8. This dual shift underscores a growing sense of security among residents and a tangible reduction in criminal activity.
Surpassing Global Metropolitan Hubs
The Numbeo rankings placed Lahore above a roster of prominent international cities. The city outperformed Pakistan’s economic center, Karachi, as well as India’s capital, New Delhi. Remarkably, Lahore also achieved a higher safety score than several Western powerhouses, including Paris, London, Washington D.C., New York, and Mexico City.
Police Strategy Credited for Positive Trend
Muhammad Faisal Kamran, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Operations for Lahore, attributed the positive trajectory to targeted law enforcement strategies. “The continued decline in the crime index and improvement in the safety index demonstrate the effectiveness of Lahore Police’s security strategy and ongoing efforts to enhance public safety across the city,” he stated.
The Numbeo index, which is based on user-contributed perceptions of crime and safety, provides a real-time snapshot of urban security. Lahore’s consistent improvement suggests that data-driven policing and community engagement initiatives are yielding measurable results on the ground.
