ISLAMABAD — The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NIA) has ordered Noreen Niazi, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, to appear in person for questioning regarding controversial statements allegedly made against state institutions.
According to an official notice issued by the agency, Niazi has been directed to report to the NCCIA headquarters in Islamabad on Monday to record her statement. The summons follows a probe into the dissemination of what authorities describe as false and provocative content on social media platforms.
Allegations of Spreading False Content
The NCCIA stated that the inquiry focuses on material allegedly shared online that targeted the country’s institutions. “The accused has been summoned for spreading false and inflammatory content state institutions on social media,” the agency confirmed in its notice. Officials have instructed Niazi to cooperate fully with the investigation team upon her arrival.
The legal development comes amid a broader crackdown on digital content deemed harmful to national security, with authorities increasingly scrutinizing online narratives.
Political Firestorm Over YouTube Interview
The summons follows a wave of criticism triggered by Noreen Niazi’ recent appearance in a YouTube interview. Her remarks rapidly ignited a political debate across the country, drawing sharp reactions from analysts and political commentators.
