A violent knife attack unfolded in the streets of Paris on Monday morning, leaving three women injured before a suspect was swiftly apprehended by an off-duty police officer. The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. near the Porte de Clichy tram stop in the city’s 19th arrondissement, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood.
The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed the suspect is a 31-year-old man who was carrying two knives at the time of the assault. He was arrested at 11:35 a.m., just minutes after the attack began, thanks to the rapid intervention of a police officer who was not on duty. The officer spotted the individual assaulting passersby and immediately reported the situation, enabling a swift response.
Off-Duty Officer Hailed for Courage
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez praised the officer’s bravery during a press briefing. “The suspect was arrested by an off-duty police officer from the Paris police prefecture,” Nuñez stated. “I salute his courage.” The suspect has since been placed in police custody on charges of attempted murder.
The three victims were all women, aged 19, 24, and 36. services quickly transported them to local hospitals. According to the police prefecture, none of the victims’ lives are currently in danger. However, two of the women are in critical condition. One sustained injuries to her lower back, while the other was wounded in the abdomen. The third victim suffered less serious injuries.

Minister Nuñez urged caution regarding the attacker’s motives, revealing that the suspect has only provided a declared identity and is making incoherent statements. “We must remain very cautious about the motives for this extremely violent act,” he emphasized.
