PPP Alleges Ballot Stuffing in AJK Elections Phase 2

PPP Alleges Ballot Stuffing in AJK Elections Phase 2

MUZAFFARABAD — The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has launched a scathing indictment of the electoral process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, alleging systematic ballot stuffing and the forcible ejection of its polling agents as the second phase of local elections got underway. The accusations, spearheaded by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, have cast a dark shadow over the credibility of the vote and prompted urgent calls for intervention by the Election Commission.

A Cry for Justice from the Polling Stations

In a series of urgent statements on social media, Bilawal Bhutto painted a picture of administrative failure, asserting that the electoral body had ignored a litany of complaints filed after the first phase of the elections. He argued that this inaction had directly enabled the chaos now unfolding.

“Despite this admission from the rigging party, the ECP has still failed to take action on our complaints from phase 1,” Bilawal stated. “Had they done so, the credibility of today’s phase 2 election would have been restored.”

Specific Allegations of Malpractice

The PPP chairman was explicit in detailing the nature of the violations. The party’s grievances center on two core accusations:

  • Ballot Stuffing: The PPP claims to have documented multiple instances of pre-marked ballots being illegally inserted into ballot boxes.
  • Agent Removal: The party alleges its authorized polling agents were systematically and unlawfully removed from their designated stations, leaving the process without opposition scrutiny.

Bilawal confirmed that the party had already submitted multiple written complaints documenting these very offenses, yet no remedial action had been taken.

The Threat of Street Power

With the integrity of the vote in question, the PPP leadership has signaled a significant escalation. Bilawal Bhutto made it clear that the party reserves the right to take its battle from the polling booths to the streets.

“The PPP reserves the right to protest and demand re-election in phases where these irregularities have occurred,” he warned, putting the Election Commission on notice that a failure to ensure transparency would not be accepted quietly. The demand for re-polling in affected constituencies now hangs in the balance, dependent on the commission’s immediate response.

A Test of Institutional Credibility

The controversy places the Election Commission under intense pressure to demonstrate its authority and impartiality. For Bilawal, the path forward is clear. He expressed a final, cautious hope that the commission would act without further delay to secure transparency and fairness, at least for the remainder of the second phase. The coming hours will determine whether the electoral process can be salvaged or if the results will be fought over not just in courts, but in the streets of Muzaffarabad.
