PCB Chairman Unveils Plan at London Roadshow
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a landmark decision to host Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches at the Muzaffarabad cricket stadium in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The move marks a significant expansion of the league’s geographical footprint and development initiatives.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement during the PSL’s promotional roadshow held at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He stated that the board has initiated concrete steps to prepare the venue for top-tier cricket.
Stadium Development and International Vision
Naqvi emphasized the PCB’s commitment to upgrading the Muzaffarabad facility to meet international standards. “We are going to develop the Muzaffarabad cricket stadium in the best possible way,” he declared, highlighting the region’s existing infrastructure, including high-quality five-star hotels suitable for international players.
The initiative extends beyond the PSL. The Chairman revealed that the board plans to host other international matches in AJK, signaling a long-term vision to bring premier cricket to the region. However, the specific number of PSL fixtures to be held in Muzaffarabad during the upcoming season was not disclosed.
PSL’s Major Restructuring
This expansion coincides with a major restructuring of the PSL itself. The league, which began in 2016 with five franchises, is set to grow to eight teams from its 11th edition next year. This represents the first major expansion of the tournament in seven years, promising a larger and more competitive season.
The decision to include Muzaffarabad is seen as a strategic move to promote cricket nationwide and utilize infrastructure across Pakistan and AJK, further solidifying the PSL’s status as a premier domestic T20 competition.
