A special Lahore police investigation team is grappling with a six-year-old missing person case after family members claimed the woman was abducted by a djinn—a supernatural entity in local folklore. Fouzia Bibi, then 35, vanished in May 2019, and despite extensive efforts, authorities have been unable to locate her.
The Lahore High Court ordered the formation of the investigative team, led by DIG Zeeshan Raza, after the woman’s mother, Hameedan Bibi, filed a report alleging her daughter had been taken. Fouzia’s in-laws maintain that a djinn was responsible, a claim that has complicated police efforts.
DIG Raza described the case as one of the most perplexing of his career. Despite employing advanced techniques such as geofencing, analyzing over 800 mobile phone records, and conducting polygraph tests on multiple individuals, no trace of Fouzia has been found.
Authorities are now considering the possibility that Fouzia may have left voluntarily due to marital strife. She was significantly older than her teenage husband, and some relatives suggested she was unhappy in the marriage and reluctant to have children. Notably, Fouzia had no national identity card, making it nearly impossible to track her through official channels.
The Lahore Capital City Police Officer has been summoned to appear before the court on September 18 along with a progress report. With few leads left, investigators continue to seek answers in a case that blends traditional belief systems with modern detective work.
