Strong Winds Expected in Western France as Storm Approaches Four…

Four departments in western France have been placed on yellow alert for strong winds this Friday, February 21, 2025. Gusts could reach up to 100 km/h, according to weather forecasts.

Meteorologist Guillaume Séchet has forecasted a windy end to the week, with strong winds expected to sweep across various regions of France starting Friday. Areas likely to be most affected include the Basque Country, the Massif Central, the Lyonnais region north of the Rhône Valley, the Autan region near Toulouse, and Languedoc-Roussillon, with Finistère being particularly vulnerable.

In a bulletin issued Thursday morning, Météo France advised that four departments are under a yellow wind alert for Friday. These departments include Finistère in Brittany and Aveyron, Tarn, and Haute-Garonne in the Occitanie region.

The wind conditions are part of a broader weather pattern signaling the end of a calm period, with gusts potentially reaching 100 km/h in some areas. On Friday, the Autan wind is expected to blow strongly with gusts of 70-80 km/h, potentially reaching 90 km/h in the Lauragais region. The south wind will also be strong in the western Pyrenees.

Gusts could reach around 100 km/h in the elevated areas of the Basque Country and the Massif Central. In the Lyonnais region, winds are expected to reach 80-90 km/h, even in the plains, due to the funneling effect of the southern wind. In Ouessant and the Finistère peninsula, gusts of 90-100 km/h are anticipated, which is not uncommon for the area.

Across Brittany, Météo France forecasts winds from the south reaching 60 to 80 km/h in the morning. Despite these conditions, the forecasted gusts are not expected to intensify into a full-fledged storm, although they will bring some disturbance to the end of the week, as summarized by Guillaume Séchet.

Outside these affected zones, minimal wind activity is expected. Conditions are forecasted to calm down post-Friday, with a quieter weekend anticipated, although some disturbances may linger.

Additionally, a significant rise in temperatures is expected, marking a shift towards warmer, spring-like conditions, especially in the northeast of France. This general warming trend contrasts with the windy conditions and suggests a complex weather pattern for the coming days.
