Rohit Sharma’s Return to Form Boosts India’s Champions Trophy Hopes

Rohit Sharma's Return to Form Boosts India's Champions Trophy Hopes

Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma’s return to form has brought a big piece of good news for India ahead of the Champions Trophy. After being dropped from a Test match in Sydney a month ago, Rohit showcased his abilities on Sunday in the second ODI against England, scoring a magnificent 119 runs to prove his worth. Last year, following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup for the second time, Rohit had opted out of this format and struggled in Test matches thereafter. Media reports in April were circulating speculations about selectors questioning his future post the Champions Trophy.

In the previous one-day match, Rohit had only managed to score two runs, but on Sunday, he silenced his critics by scoring 119 runs off 90 balls, demonstrating that he is still a dangerous player. Rohit made his innings memorable by hitting seven sixes and played his signature shots, indicating that he is back in his prime form. After the match, Rohit said, “I divided my batting into different segments and planned to play accordingly. It’s a 50-over format, but you have to assess different phases of your batting.” This is Rohit’s traditional approach where he assesses the bowlers initially and then plays aggressively.

He gave England bowlers the chance to bowl freely in Cuttack and avoided risky shots at the beginning of his innings. India will kick off their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai. Rohit’s return to form is surely good news for India as he is gearing up to lead his team in this crucial tournament.
