In a tragic incident on Monday, a helicopter operated by the Gilgit-Baltistan government crashed in Thor Valley, Chilas, resulting in the deaths of all five crew members on board. The helicopter was carrying two pilots and three technical staff when it went down in the Diamer District, officials have confirmed.

Faizullah Faraq, a spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, confirmed the crash, stating, “One of our helicopters has crashed in Thor, Chilas.” Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed reported that five casualties were confirmed at the scene.

The helicopter was reportedly engaged in a test landing on a newly proposed helipad, SSP Hameed noted. While the cause of the crash is yet to be officially determined, the government spokesperson indicated a possible “technical failure.”

Rescue teams and local police swiftly reached the crash site to manage the evacuation process. Further investigations are expected to reveal more details about the circumstances surrounding the crash.

This incident follows a series of similar accidents in the region, highlighting ongoing aviation safety concerns. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
