Pakistan Players Surge in ICC T20I Rankings Before World Cup

Ayub Leads Charge as Team Gains Momentum

In a timely boost for Pakistan cricket, several key players have registered significant gains in the latest ICC Men’s T20I rankings, just days before the start of the 2026 T20 World Cup. The updates, released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), highlight a squad hitting peak form at the perfect moment.

Saim Ayub Reclaims Top All-Rounder Spot

The standout performer is opener Saim Ayub, who has regained the world number one position in the T20I all-rounder rankings. Ayub’s return to the summit follows a dominant individual display in Pakistan’s recent 3-0 series whitewash of Australia at home, displacing Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza.

Across the three matches, Ayub scored 119 runs and claimed three wickets, showcasing the all-round prowess that makes him a central figure in Pakistan’s campaign for a second T20 World Cup title, their first since 2009.

Bowlers Make Major Strides

The bowling department also saw remarkable progress. Spinner Abrar Ahmed climbed two places to second in the bowlers’ rankings, now sitting just 28 rating points behind India’s top-ranked Varun Chakravarthy, after taking six wickets against Australia.

Fellow spinner Mohammad Nawaz made an even bigger leap, jumping eight places to seventh on the bowlers’ list following a five-wicket haul in the final match of the series. Nawaz also improved his standing as an all-rounder, rising one place to fourth.

Batters on the Move

There was positive movement in the batting ranks as well. Ayub advanced eight places to joint 27th, while captain Salman Ali Agha climbed 12 positions to 29th. The top of the batting chart remains commanded by India’s Abhishek Sharma, with other notable shifts including England’s Jos Buttler moving up to third.

Global Shake-Up Ahead of World Cup

The rankings update reflects a global reshuffle with the World Cup on the horizon. Other significant movers include:

  • Australia’s Cameron Green (up 16 places to 14th among batters)
  • South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (up 15 spots to joint 22nd)
  • India’s Ishan Kishan (surged 32 places to 32nd)

With seven different nations represented in the top 11 batting spots, the upcoming tournament in Sri Lanka is poised to trigger further volatility in the standings as players vie for supremacy on the world stage.
