Military Confirms Admission to CMH
Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after sustaining injuries from a fall at his residence, the military’s media wing announced on Thursday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a health update confirming that Bajwa is currently receiving medical treatment at the facility.
Details of the Incident
Family sources had previously confirmed the development a day earlier, stating that the retired general was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering a head injury.
“Qamar Bajwa fell in the bathroom of his house at around 4:30am on Tuesday,” the family sources added, providing specific details about the early morning accident.
Distinguished Military Career
General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa served as the Chief of Army Staff from 2016 to 2022, retiring from office on November 29, 2022. His military career spanned several decades with numerous key appointments:
- Inspector General of Training and Evaluation at General Headquarters (GHQ) prior to becoming COAS
- Service in the 10 Corps as a lieutenant colonel and General Staff Officer (GSO)
- Brigade commander with a United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo
- Commandant of the Infantry School in Quetta
Bajwa belongs to the infantry’s Baloch Regiment, a distinguished unit that has produced three other army chiefs: Gen Yahya Khan, Gen Mirza Aslam Beg and Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
The medical condition and expected recovery timeline of the former army chief have not been officially disclosed beyond the confirmation of hospitalization and treatment.
