A detailed three-page report submitted to Pakistan’s Supreme Court has laid bare the daily routine and living conditions of incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Spacious Confinement and Leisure Activities
The report, filed by the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, states that the 73-year-old leader is housed in a seven-cell compound adjacent to a lawn. The facility includes a 57-foot-long corridor and can accommodate 30 to 35 prisoners. According to the document, Khan spends time reading books and newspapers on the lawn and has access to a cycling machine and other gym equipment for exercise.
A Detailed Dietary Regimen
The submission provided a comprehensive breakdown of the former premier’s daily meals:
- Breakfast: Dates, walnuts, honey, coffee, porridge, lassi, warm milk, chia seeds, and pomegranate juice.
- Lunch: Desi chicken, mutton, salad, mixed pickles, potato chips, fried eggs, and assorted lentils.
- Evening: A shake containing almonds, raisins, grated coconut, milk, dates, bananas, and apples.
Health and Security Provisions
The report emphasized that Khan is kept in a secure environment with “adequate class facilities,” noting he has access to natural light and fresh air throughout the day. This disclosure follows recent legal concerns over Khan’s health, particularly his eyesight. His lawyers had previously informed the court of significant vision loss in his right eye, though a medical board reported this week that swelling had reduced and vision had improved after treatment.
Imran Khan, the cricketer-turned-politician, has been imprisoned since August 2023 following convictions in multiple cases, which he and his party maintain are politically motivated following his ouster via a parliamentary vote in April 2022.
