The Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) will deploy a major emergency response exercise across the French capital overnight from Thursday to Friday. The large-scale drill is designed to test and refine the brigade’s operational capabilities under realistic crisis conditions, involving simulated casualties, emergency vehicles, and a full-scale incident response.
Simulating a Complex Mass Casualty Incident
According to details reported by Le Parisien, the exercise will run from approximately 11:00 PM until 3:00 AM in strategic sectors of Paris, notably around the Seine quays and in the city center. The primary objective is to replicate a complex emergency scenario to train response teams in conditions that closely mirror reality.
“The participation of numerous made-up people, simulating injuries,” is a key component of the drill, authorities stated. The Paris Police Prefecture elaborated that the goal is to “test, improve, and guarantee the effectiveness of its operational response for the simultaneous care of numerous victims.” This exercise is part of a series of regular trainings organized by the BSPP to evaluate and strengthen the operational effectiveness of its field teams.
Major Traffic Disruptions Planned
A direct consequence of the operation will be significant disruptions to traffic and public access in central Paris starting Thursday evening. Several major thoroughfares will be closed to all traffic and pedestrians.
The following closures have been announced:
- From 9:00 PM: The Georges Pompidou roadway will be closed between the Louis-Philippe bridge and the Tuileries tunnel.
- From 10:00 PM: Access will be prohibited to the Édouard Glissant promenade, the Solférino dock, and the Léopold Sédar Senghor footbridge.
- From 10:00 PM: Numerous quays on both banks of the Seine will be closed to circulation and parking, including:
- Right Bank: Quai de la Mégisserie, Quai de Gesvres, Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville, and Quai des Célestins.
- Left Bank: Quai Voltaire and Quai Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.
The exercise underscores the ongoing efforts by Parisian emergency services to enhance preparedness and response protocols for potential major crises in the heart of the city.
