The Punjab government has announced plans to establish a sprawling 50-acre Punjab Film City in Lahore, a project designed to empower local talent and position Pakistan as a global hub for creative industries.
First-of-Its-Kind Initiative for Punjab
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took to social media platform X to unveil the project, describing it as the first of its kind in the province. She stated that the concept was conceived nearly two years ago and developed through extensive consultations with filmmakers, producers, and actors to create a comprehensive, sovereign pipeline for content creation in Pakistan.
World-Class Facilities Planned
The chief minister detailed that the Film City will feature state-of-the-art studios and sound stages, advanced visual effects (VFX) and post-production laboratories, and diverse backlots, including a central lake. A purpose-built convention hall is also planned to host international award shows.
Integrated Creative Ecosystem
Beyond production facilities, the project will include integrated media trade hubs, a dedicated film and music school, and robust safety and emergency response infrastructure. A vibrant entertainment district is also part of the master plan, intended to support the country’s burgeoning creative sector.
Vision for Youth and Global Recognition
“This initiative will empower local talent, create thousands of jobs, and position Pakistan as a global hub for creative excellence,” CM Maryam stated on X. She added that the Film City will be a gift for the youth, offering “a space where their dreams can take flight and the true, vibrant face of Pakistan is showcased to the world.”
The chief minister framed the project as a key component of her broader vision to transform Punjab into a leading global destination for technology, innovation, heritage, and culture.
