Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has re-established contact with the federal government for the first time since Governor’s Rule was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, party sources said, marking a tentative reopening of a political channel that had broken down earlier this month.
According to sources within the party, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur reached out to the federal government on the instructions of the PTI parliamentary party. Gandapur was reportedly authorised to hold negotiations during a parliamentary party meeting convened on October 20.
Contact Made With Two Key Federal Ministers
Sources said the outreach was directed at two key federal ministers who had previously served on the government’s negotiating team before Governor’s Rule was imposed. The identities of the ministers were not disclosed.
Political contacts between the PTI and the federal government had reportedly collapsed following the imposition of Governor’s Rule in the province on October 11, leaving the two sides without a working channel for several weeks.
Restoration of Government and Release of Detainees Top Agenda
The sources said the PTI’s top priorities in the renewed engagement are the restoration of Sohail Afridi’s government and the release of arrested party workers.
- PTI re-established contact with the federal government after weeks of no communication.
- Ali Amin Gandapur was authorised to negotiate at an October 20 parliamentary party meeting.
- Two federal ministers from the earlier government negotiating team were contacted.
- Restoration of Sohail Afridi’s government and release of detained workers head the party’s demands.
The resumption of contact signals a possible shift toward dialogue after a period of heightened tension in the province, though no details were immediately available on the format or timetable of any formal negotiations.
