ISLAMABAD—In a significant development aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s judicial infrastructure, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi on Wednesday to deliberate on judicial reforms. The meeting, held at the Chief Justice’s House, was convened at CJP Afridi’s invitation to discuss the agenda for the forthcoming National Judicial Policymaking Committee session.

During the discussions, Chief Justice Afridi highlighted the necessity for government collaboration to advance the justice delivery system. The reform agenda is designed to reduce case backlogs and ensure swift justice for citizens. The CJP emphasized the importance of bipartisan support for these reforms, seeking input from opposition parties to ensure the changes are comprehensive and enduring.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his approval of the proposed reforms and assured that the government would contribute its perspective. Accompanying the Prime Minister were Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, and Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan. The meeting concluded with the CJP presenting a commemorative shield to the Prime Minister.

In related diplomatic engagements, Prime Minister Shehbaz also met with a visiting Bahraini parliamentary delegation led by Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives. Discussions focused on boosting bilateral trade and investment opportunities. The Prime Minister encouraged Bahraini investors to explore business prospects in Pakistan, highlighting the strong cultural and historical ties between the two nations, and conveyed his regards to Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

On the occasion of International Social Justice Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement urging collective action to tackle poverty, gender inequality, and discrimination. He underscored the government’s commitment to social justice through initiatives like prison and gender-based violence reforms, and emphasized the need for equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for all citizens.
