Pakistan Halts Mail to US Following New Tariff Regulations

Rawalpindi — Pakistan has joined more than 25 countries in suspending mail delivery to the United States in response to new tariffs imposed by the US government. The updated policy, enacted under executive order number 14324 on July 25, scrapped the previous duty-free facility and introduced taxes on all mail deliveries, which has created significant disruptions in global postal services to the US.

In reaction to these changes, Pakistan Post has decided to stop sending booked mails to the US, citing concerns over potential returns due to the newly imposed duties. This decision aligns with actions taken by other major countries including the United Kingdom, China, Japan, and several European nations, which have halted their postal services to the US as well.

Airlines, collaborating in the global postal network, have also expressed their inability to transport mail under the new regulations, further complicating international communications to the United States.

The affected nations are appealing through the Universal Postal Union, a agency under the United Nations, to address and resolve the prevailing issues arising from the tariff impositions.

This move by the US marks a considerable shift in international mailing logistics, prompting widespread dialogue and negotiation efforts aimed at restoring normalized postal operations globally.
