France is set for another day of unsettled weather this Sunday, September 14, 2025, with several regions under “yellow alert” for thunderstorms following a generally gloomy weekend. The national weather service, Météo France, issued warnings as autumn-like conditions, including rain and the risk of localized flooding, have already taken hold across much of the country.
Saturday saw widespread overcast skies and active storm cells, particularly impacting the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, where an “orange alert” for storms was recently lifted, and parts of the Mediterranean basin. The early onset of such weather patterns indicates a premature dip into autumnal conditions, despite the official start of autumn being weeks away.
For Sunday, Météo France has maintained a yellow alert for thunderstorm risks across 12 regions in the eastern and central-eastern parts of the country. These areas are expected to experience compact and persistent cloud cover, with a low but present risk of storms.
The regions under yellow alert for thunderstorms are: Côte-d’Or, Doubs, Jura, Haute-Marne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Moselle, Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Haute-Saône, Vosges, and Territoire de Belfort. Additionally, two other regions, Pas-de-Calais and Var, remain under yellow alert for flood risks.
Beyond the storm warnings, Sunday’s forecast includes morning rain for Brittany, Normandy, and Pays de la Loire. This rain is expected to spread eastward later in the day, reaching Champagne-Ardenne and areas from the Massif Central up to the northern Garonne river.
Strong winds will also accompany the wet weather. Gusts of up to 100 km/h are anticipated along the Channel coast, with west to south-westerly winds reaching 80 to 100 km/h in the morning and 70 to 80 km/h in the afternoon around the Corsican capes.
In contrast, southern France is set to enjoy a brighter day. Météo France predicts abundant sunshine throughout the day from southern Aquitaine towards the Gulf of Lion, the PACA region, Rhône-Alpes, and Corsica. However, clouds are expected to gather over Auvergne in the afternoon.
Temperatures will vary significantly across the country. Morning lows range from 9 to 14 degrees Celsius inland, 14 to 16 degrees along the Atlantic coast, and 16 to 19 degrees on Mediterranean beaches. Afternoon highs will see 18 to 24 degrees from north to south, climbing to 25 to 28 degrees from the Southwest to the Rhône Valley and PACA, with peaks of 31 to 32 degrees in Corsica and around the Mediterranean.
