Shocking Discovery in Haute-Saône
A woman in her fifties has been arrested on suspicion of a double infanticide following the grim discovery of two infant bodies in a household freezer in eastern France. The arrest occurred in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, on Wednesday, according to sources close to the investigation.
Investigation Launched After Disturbing Find
The case began on Tuesday when a man contacted gendarmerie in Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont, Haute-Saône, after finding the body of a newborn in a freezer at his home. Upon arrival, officers discovered a second infant’s body. The suspect, identified as the mother, had reportedly left the residence without notice prior to the discovery.
Initial reports indicate the woman is the mother of nine children from two different relationships. She was apprehended in the Paris region, where one of her adult sons is believed to reside.
Ongoing Judicial Proceedings
The investigation is being jointly conducted by the Lure Research Brigade and the Besançon Research Section. Given the criminal nature of the case, the Vesoul public prosecutor’s office has transferred jurisdiction to the Besançon prosecutor’s office.
Besançon prosecutor Cédric Logelin has scheduled a press conference to address the procedure opened following the discovery of “the body of an infant and a bag that could contain a second” in Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont.
At the scene in the quiet commune of approximately 1,700 inhabitants, police seals were visible on the roller shutters of a single-story light-colored house with an open gate on Charles-Demandre Street.
The mayor and deputy mayor of Aillevillers-et-Lyaumont declined to comment when contacted about the developing case.
