11 International Flights Stranded in Pakistan Amid Middle East Crisis

11 International Flights Stranded in Pakistan Amid Middle East Crisis

Airspace Closures Trigger Widespread Disruption

At least 11 international flights have been stranded at airports across Pakistan for three consecutive days, becoming collateral damage in a rapidly escalating Middle East crisis. The aviation gridlock follows joint US-Israel strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and triggered retaliatory missile barrages across the region.

Pakistan’s Airports Become Parking Lots

Foreign airline jets sit idle on tarmacs from Multan to Sialkot, with one aircraft at Multan International Airport awaiting departure since Saturday. The closures of major Middle Eastern aviation hubs—including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha—have created a domino effect paralyzing global air travel networks.

Pakistan-Afghanistan Airspace Sees Surge

As Middle Eastern airspace remains restricted, FlightRadar data reveals a dramatic increase in overflights through Pakistani and Afghan corridors. These routes have suddenly become among the world’s busiest as airlines scramble to reroute Europe-Asia traffic.

  • Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest international hub, remains closed
  • Abu Dhabi and Doha airports operating under severe restrictions
  • Iranian and Iraqi airspace unavailable, compounding existing Ukraine war restrictions

Global Ripple Effects Intensify

The aviation crisis extends far beyond regional borders. “Middle East airspace closures are squeezing airlines into narrower corridors,” said Ian Petchenik of Flightradar24, noting that Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions add further risk to already constrained routing options.

Aircraft and crews remain stranded out of position worldwide, forcing airlines to cancel or reroute flights at tremendous cost. Journey times have lengthened significantly while fuel costs skyrocket, creating what aviation analysts describe as one of the sharpest air travel disruptions in recent years.

Regional Conflict Background

The current crisis erupted when US-Israeli strikes targeted Iran on Saturday, with President Donald Trump vowing to destroy Tehran’s missile capabilities. Iran responded with missile attacks targeting Gulf states and Israel, plunging the region into renewed military confrontation and triggering the aviation shutdown that continues to strand passengers and aircraft globally.
