Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the proposal on social media platform X, stating Pakistan “welcomes and fully supports ongoing efforts to pursue dialogue.” He emphasized the country’s readiness to facilitate negotiations, contingent on both parties’ agreement.
“Subject to concurrence by the US and Iran, Pakistan stands ready and honoured to be the host to facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks for a comprehensive settlement of the ongoing conflict,” PM Shehbaz wrote.
Intensifying Back-Channel Diplomacy
The public offer follows reports of behind-the-scenes efforts led by Pakistan. According to international media, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir spoke with US President Donald Trump on Sunday. Senior Pakistani officials are reportedly relaying messages between Tehran and US envoys, including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
President Trump confirmed “very good and productive” conversations with Iran, reposting PM Shehbaz’s offer on his own platform. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, while confirming the call with Field Marshal Munir, declined to detail future meetings, calling discussions “sensitive.”
Regional Coordination and Stakes
Pakistan’s diplomatic push is said to be coordinated with regional partners Turkey and Egypt. The Foreign Office reiterated its commitment to a diplomatic resolution, with a spokesperson stating Pakistan is “already ready to host talks” if both sides agree.
