Firefighters Battle 200-Square-Meter Blaze in Building Basement
A significant fire broke out in the basement of a residential building on Rue du Temple in Paris’s 3rd arrondissement on Monday morning, April 20. According to the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP), approximately fifty firefighters were deployed to combat the blaze, which covered an area of 200 square meters.
Casualties and Evacuations
The fire, which started just before 8 a.m., was still being fought by 10 a.m. Authorities confirmed that two people sustained minor injuries. Four other individuals were evacuated by firefighters due to life-threatening smoke inhalation risks.
Major Disruptions in the Area
The emergency response caused substantial disruptions in the neighborhood. The Paris Centre town hall announced that electricity and gas supplies to the area were cut off as a safety precaution. Additionally, a 200-meter section of Rue du Temple, starting from Rue Dupetit-Thouars, was closed to traffic while firefighters operated two water hoses to extinguish the flames.
