US and Israel Strike Iran as Hezbollah Conflict Intensifies

The United States and Israel have conducted military strikes against Iran, marking a significant escalation in the Middle East war that has already drawn in multiple fronts. The attacks come as Israel claims to have destroyed over 1,000 Hezbollah infrastructure targets in southern Lebanon, while Iranian officials signal defiance and diplomatic outreach to Asian partners.

Israel Claims Destruction of Hezbollah Infrastructure

The Israeli military announced Tuesday that its forces have destroyed more than 1,000 “infrastructures” used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. According to a military statement cited by Al Jazeera, the targets included “booby-trapped buildings and buildings where weapons were located.”

Israeli forces also confiscated “hundreds of weapons, including machine guns, Kalashnikov-type rifles, grenades, mines, pistols, anti-tank missiles, ammunition, RPG rockets, and mortar bombs.” The operation was carried out by the Bislamach Brigade, which previously fought in Gaza.

Hezbollah Responds with Drone AttacksHezbollah released video footage showing drones targeting Israeli soldiers, as the group continues its asymmetric warfare campaign. The Israeli military confirmed that a drone attack launched by Hezbollah wounded two soldiers in southern Lebanon, with one soldier “severely injured” and another “lightly injured.” The wounded were evacuated to a hospital, and their families have been notified.

Israeli forces also launched airstrikes and heavy machine-gun fire toward the al-Mihniya neighborhood in Lebanon’s city of Bint Jbeil, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency. Israeli jets carried out three airstrikes on the town of Zawtar al-Sharqiya since early morning local time.

Iranian Officials Signal Defiance and Diplomacy

Iran’s defense ministry spokesman Reza Talaei-Nik declared that the United States “is no longer in a position to dictate its policy to independent nations,” according to state TV. He added that Washington would “accept that it must abandon its illegal and irrational demands.”

In a separate development, Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister, speaking during a meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) defense ministers in Kyrgyzstan, announced that Iran is ready to share its defensive weapons capabilities with “independent countries, especially members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.”

Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, publicly praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for facilitating diplomatic talks. The envoy described diplomats as “architects of peace” and emphasized that their efforts helped translate political will into practical arrangements.

Global Ripple Effects

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong warned that the Middle East war has had a “disproportionate impact” on the Asia-Pacific region. Speaking in Tokyo after meeting with Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi, Wong highlighted “closely linked” supply chains and the “effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz” as key concerns for the region.

British energy giant BP reported a sharp rise in net profit for the first quarter, with profit after tax jumping to $3.8 billion compared to $687 million in the same period last year. The company attributed the surge to soaring crude oil prices driven by the Middle East conflict.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the blockade targets Iranian shipping specifically and is not intended to disrupt global trade, as the international community grapples with the economic fallout of the escalating war.
