Pakistan Vows to Sustain Regional Peace Push, Naqvi Tells Iran

Pakistan has vowed to continue its diplomatic efforts to secure lasting peace in the Middle East, as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with his Iranian counterpart, Dr Eskandar Momeni, in Islamabad on Wednesday. The high-stakes meeting came on the heels of a landmark peace declaration aimed at defusing long-simmering regional tensions.

According to an official statement from the interior ministry, the two leaders engaged in extensive discussions covering the breadth of Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and the rapidly evolving regional landscape following the recent peace agreement.

Diplomatic Breakthrough and Shared Optimism

Naqvi congratulated Momeni on the joint declaration signed at Burgenstock, Switzerland, asserting that the accord would not have materialized without the sincere and tireless efforts of the Iranian government and its negotiating team. “Pakistan has always been a proponent of peace and stability across the world,” Naqvi stated. “I am hopeful that the peace agreement will have far-reaching positive consequences for the entire region.”

Momeni expressed deep gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his delegation during their visit to Pakistan. He was a key member of the delegation that arrived a day earlier, following the signing of the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding’ between the United States and Iran, a pact designed to bring an end to the Middle East conflict.

The Iranian minister specifically praised Pakistan’s sincere role in facilitating the Iran-US negotiations and commended the Pakistani nation for its full-throated support throughout the delicate diplomatic process.

Bilateral Cooperation to Intensify

Both ministers expressed profound satisfaction over the reduction of tensions in the region and moved swiftly to cement a path forward for deeper bilateral cooperation. The two sides agreed to enhance collaboration across multiple critical sectors, specifically naming security, counter-terrorism, cyber security, and immigration management as priority areas.

In a significant announcement, Momeni revealed plans to undertake a detailed follow-up visit to Pakistan in the near future. The upcoming trip is explicitly aimed at further strengthening institutional cooperation between the interior ministries of both nations.

The high-level meeting was attended by a host of senior Pakistani officials, including Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Secretary Interior, the Additional Secretary Interior, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Commandant of the National Police Academy, and the Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
