ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court, accusing authorities of defying a judicial directive related to the medical care of party founder Imran Khan. The petition demands immediate compliance and punitive action against those responsible for the alleged violation.
The legal challenge centers on the Supreme Court’s order dated August 18, 2026, which PTI claims required the transfer of Imran Khan to a hospital for medical treatment. According to the party, that order has not been implemented, prompting the contempt proceedings.
Demands for Accountability and Immediate Action
In its petition, PTI has requested the Supreme Court to issue show-cause notices to the respondents and individuals accused of contempt, directing them to appear before the court in person. The party is also seeking a formal declaration that the respondents are guilty of contempt of court and should be punished in accordance with the law.
Beyond punitive measures, PTI has urged the court to order the immediate transfer of Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, where a comprehensive medical examination should be conducted. To ensure enforcement, the petition proposes the appointment of a judicial officer or a local commission to oversee the implementation of the court’s order.

The contempt petition was filed by Uzair Bhandari and Salman Akram Raja on behalf of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The move comes as the Supreme Court has already adjourned the hearing of the related case until September 16.
The filing escalates a standoff between PTI and the government over the conditions of Imran Khan’s detention and his access to medical facilities. PTI has repeatedly raised concerns about the former prime minister’s health and the adequacy of treatment provided to him while in custody.
The Supreme Court has not yet scheduled a hearing specifically for the contempt petition, but the case is expected to draw significant attention given the political sensitivity surrounding Imran Khan’s imprisonment and ongoing legal battles.
