CHARSADDA – Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi declared on Friday that the state will uphold its duty to maintain law and order, warning that anyone taking the law into their own hands will face strict legal action. The statement came during his visit to the Federal Constabulary Training Centre in Shabqadar, Charsadda, where he inspected the Anti-Riot Wing’s specialised training exercises.
Naqvi praised the personnel for their professional skills, modern training and operational readiness after observing practical drills focused on crowd control, protection of sensitive locations, handling violent situations and maintaining public order. “The Anti-Riot Force has been trained on modern lines and is fully prepared to respond to different law-and-order situations,” he said.
Peaceful Protest vs. Violence: A Clear Distinction
The interior minister emphasised that peaceful protest is a fundamental right of every citizen, with the law clearly defining the procedure for holding demonstrations. However, he drew a firm line against unlawful actions.
“Violence, vandalism, damage to public or private property and disruption of public order cannot be allowed under the guise of protest,” Naqvi stated. He affirmed that the government would not permit anyone to undermine peace, stability and law and order in the country.
Modern Equipment and Enhanced Facilities for FC Personnel
Addressing the trainees, Naqvi urged them to complete their training with dedication and maintain a high level of professionalism. He announced that modern protective equipment meeting international standards is being provided to improve their safety and operational capacity in the field.
The minister directed authorities to issue gas masks to all personnel and stressed the importance of comprehensive training for tackling diverse challenges. During his visit to the FC headquarters, he announced improved sports facilities, including the construction of an international-standard swimming pool.
Welfare Measures and Personnel Concerns Addressed
Naqvi also visited the barracks, met personnel and inquired about their concerns. He directed the reconstruction of all washrooms at the FC headquarters and followed up on an electricity issue raised during his previous visit. Personnel confirmed that uninterrupted power supply was now available and thanked the minister for resolving the problem.
In a humanitarian gesture, the minister ordered immediate measures for the treatment of cancer affecting the mother of an FC official.
Diverse Representation in Training Programme
A briefing informed the minister that trainees at the centre represented all provinces as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. For the first time, 35 women personnel were also included in the training programme, marking a significant step toward inclusivity in the force.
The Inspector General of the Federal Constabulary, Deputy Inspector General Training, District Officer FC and other senior officers were present during the visit.
