BISHKEK – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed that the only viable path to resolving the ongoing conflict is the sincere implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding of June 2026 by both the United States and Iran.
Dar made these remarks during a bilateral meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting in Bishkek. The Pakistani foreign minister emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential tools for promoting peace and stability across the region.
Bilateral Talks Focus on Regional Stability
The meeting between Dar and Araghchi provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on key regional developments. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared a brief statement on social media, noting the warm exchange between the two foreign ministers ahead of the high-level SCO gathering.
The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed in June 2026, has been viewed as a potential framework for de-escalation between Washington and Tehran. Dar’s call for its full implementation signals Pakistan’s continued diplomatic push for peaceful conflict resolution in its neighborhood.
Pakistan-Uzbekistan Partnership Strengthened
In a separate engagement on the same day, Dar met with Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. The two counterparts reaffirmed the close and growing partnership between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, discussing avenues to further deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The SCO summit in Bishkek brought together foreign ministers and heads of state from across Eurasia, offering a platform for multilateral dialogue on security, economic connectivity, and regional cooperation. Pakistan’s active participation underscores its commitment to regional diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution through established international frameworks.
