Knife Attack Near Paris Train Station Ends in Trial

NMAdmin September 1, 2026 1 2 min read

Two 20-year-old men narrowly avoided facing an assize court for attempted murder after a violent knife attack near the Lagny-Thorigny train station in Seine-et-Marne. Instead, they appeared before the Meaux criminal court on Monday, August 31, charged with aggravated violence and death threats.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, survived the assault but sustained a deep stab wound to his lower back. He was discharged from the Jossigny hospital against medical advice, despite a judicial assessment of twelve days of total temporary incapacity for work.

Suspects Arrested Minutes After the Attack

Police officers from the Lagny-Chessy police station arrested the two suspects shortly after the incident in the area surrounding the Lagny-Thorigny railway station. The quick response allowed authorities to take the pair into custody before they could flee the scene.

During the hearing, one of the defendants, a resident of Seine-Saint-Denis, claimed he was not aiming for the victim. “It’s not him I was targeting,” he told the court. He faced charges of violence with a weapon committed in a group and making death threats.

Second Defendant Accused of Kicking the Victim

The second young man, a friend of the primary suspect, appeared alongside him in the dock. He was charged with kicking the same victim during the altercation. The prosecution argued that the two acted together, elevating the severity of the charges.

The case highlights the ongoing concerns about youth violence and knife crime in the eastern suburbs of Paris. Local authorities have repeatedly called for increased police presence around transport hubs like Lagny-Thorigny, which serve as key connection points for commuters and tourists heading to Disneyland Paris.

Victim Leaves Hospital Against Medical Advice

Medical staff at the Jossigny hospital advised the victim to remain under observation due to the severity of his wound. However, he chose to leave the facility before completing his treatment. His decision complicated the judicial process, as a full medical report was still pending at the time of the trial.

The court must now weigh the testimony of the defendants against the physical evidence and witness accounts collected by investigators from the Lagny-Chessy police station. The outcome will determine whether the two young men face prison time or alternative sentences.
