Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Muhammad Rizwan has approached the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ICC ACU) for guidance on whether the seizure, transfer and forensic examination of his mobile phone complied with the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, sources said.
According to the sources, Rizwan filed an online request through the ICC ACU portal seeking clarity on the action taken against him while a National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) inquiry remains underway.
Questions Raised With the ICC
In his request, the Pakistan international asked whether the ICC or the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) anti-corruption authorities were aware of, or involved in, the action taken against him.
He further sought clarification on whether requesting his mobile phone, transferring the device from the United Kingdom to Pakistan and subjecting it to forensic examination were consistent with the provisions of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code.
Rizwan also asked the ICC to spell out his responsibilities and the procedure he should follow when cooperating with anti-corruption authorities in the future.
Request Not a Complaint, Sources Say
Sources emphasised that the request was not intended as a complaint against any individual or organisation. Instead, it was submitted to obtain clarification about the procedure followed in his case.
The move comes amid an NCCIA inquiry involving Rizwan and fellow cricketer Imam-ul-Haq. The agency has been carrying out forensic examinations of their mobile phones as part of its investigation.
Background of the Case
Rizwan had earlier submitted a written response to the NCCIA, seeking clarification on the reasons for his summons, the alleged disciplinary violation and why his mobile phone had not been returned.
The Lahore High Court recently dismissed Rizwan’s petition challenging the NCCIA notices and directed him to respond to the agency’s notice.
