NEW YORK — Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the Taliban regime to end its patronage of terrorist groups, delivering a sharp rebuke on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Addressing a meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan, Dar called for preventing Afghan soil from being used for terrorism against Pakistan and stressed the need for concrete and verifiable measures in this regard.
Deep Concern Over Terrorist Sanctuaries
The Foreign Minister expressed deep concern over the presence of terrorist groups inside Afghanistan, speaking of the grave threat of terrorism and recalling the recent terrorist attack in Kohat.
Dar said that immediate and concrete action is needed against terrorist groups and their sanctuaries, and that the Taliban regime should abide by Afghanistan’s international obligations and commitments.
Pakistan Reiterates Support for Stable Afghanistan
While reiterating Pakistan’s support for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan, the Foreign Minister also said that the Taliban should lift restrictions on women and girls.
The demands reflect growing frustration in Islamabad over cross-border militancy, with Pakistani officials repeatedly accusing Kabul of harboring groups responsible for attacks inside Pakistan.
