The Pakistan Cricket Board is weighing a change at the top of its T20 setup, with opening batter Sahibzada Farhan emerging as the likely choice to lead the national side in the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, according to sources familiar with the deliberations.
Farhan, who recently captained Pakistan’s T20 side at the Asian Games, has drawn support from Head Coach Mike Hesson, who is reportedly in favour of retaining him in the role for the shortest format. Should the move be approved, Farhan would replace Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan’s T20 captain.
Selection Committee Eyes Youth for Future Planning
Sources indicate that the selection committee is preparing to use the Sri Lanka series as a platform to blood younger players, part of a broader effort to build depth ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup. The team management is said to be working deliberately toward expanding the pool of players available for international selection.
As part of that approach, several senior figures are not expected to feature in the squad:
