The primary health insurance fund for the Val-de-Marne department (CPAM 94) is stepping up its awareness and information efforts on breast cancer screening this October, partnering with local authorities, the regional cancer screening coordination center (CRCDC) and community organizations across the territory, according to a press release issued by the French national health insurance body this month.
The campaign comes as breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death among women, accounting for 33 percent of new cancer cases. More than 60,000 cases are diagnosed in France each year, and more than 12,000 women die from the disease annually. Yet in nine out of ten cases, the cancer can be treated successfully if detected early enough — making widespread screening a critical public health priority.
Screening Stands in 13 Communes
Throughout October, dedicated information stands will be set up in 13 communes across the department. At these sites, health teams will train women in breast self-examination, distribute educational materials and direct participants to accredited radiology centers.
Two Walk-In Mammography Days
In addition, two “mammography without an appointment” days have been organized:
- October 7 at Bégin Hospital in Saint-Mandé
- October 14 at the Créteil Intercommunal Hospital Center
The national breast cancer screening program is open to all women aged 50 to 74 and is fully covered by the French health insurance system, with no upfront costs for patients.
