ISLAMABAD — Pakistan summoned India’s chargé d’affaires on Saturday to lodge a strong protest over the killing of two Pakistani civilians by Indian Border Security Force personnel near the international border in Kasur district, the Foreign Office said.
According to the Foreign Office, the incident occurred on Friday in the Bedian sector, when BSF personnel opened fire on three unarmed Pakistani civilians. Two of the men were killed, while the third sustained injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Islamabad Calls Use of Force ‘Unjustified and Disproportionate’
The Foreign Office said the Indian border personnel had used “unprovoked and lethal force” against the civilians, describing the shooting as unjustified and disproportionate. It also rejected any attempt to portray the deceased as “infiltrators.”
Pakistan characterized the incident as a serious violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, and raised concerns about the protection of civilians under international law.
Victims Identified as Residents of Ladhar Village
According to reports, the three civilians belonged to Ladhar village and had moved a few steps beyond a border pillar when BSF personnel opened fire without warning. The men were unarmed.
The deceased were identified as Azmat Rasool and Mohsin Jutt, both residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar.
Security sources said the three civilians had not attempted to cross the border fence, describing the incident as a violation of the agreement and standard operating procedures governing the international border.
Pakistan Demands Transparent Investigation
Islamabad urged India to conduct an immediate, transparent and credible investigation into the incident and to take appropriate legal and disciplinary action against those responsible. Pakistan also asked New Delhi to formally share the findings of the investigation and details of any action taken.
The Foreign Office further called on India to respect fundamental human rights and international law, follow bilateral arrangements and established border procedures, exercise maximum restraint and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
