Charlotte’s journey through Koh-Lanta All Stars has been defined by eliminations. Ousted during the first team-based phase, she was eliminated again once the red and yellow teams were formed. Voted out by her own teammates after four defeats in as many challenges, the unfortunate finalist from Koh-Lanta: The Cursed Tribe will once again attempt to escape the Island of the Banished.
As she stands on the brink of rejoining the competition at the reunification, expected this Tuesday, October 6, on Koh-Lanta All Stars, the former yellow team captain took the opportunity to address her critics in an interview with Le Parisien.
A Captaincy She Never Wanted
Viewers have not always been kind about the 31-year-old adventurer’s decisions. After returning to the game alongside Maxime following a stint on the Island of the Banished, Charlotte was chosen to assemble one of the two teams. As leader of the Taboga, her team composition was widely criticized as too weak and driven primarily by personal connections, especially when compared to Maxime’s red team, the Sebako.
Acknowledging that “being a captain is something I don’t carry in my heart,” Charlotte admits that embracing the role was “extremely complicated” to manage. But she firmly rejects the notion that her team was unbalanced, despite the red team’s overwhelming dominance of five victories in six challenges before the reunification.
“I reviewed, rethought, and reassessed that team composition constantly, even on the island. In the end, I don’t regret my choices,” she defends herself.
‘It Drives Me Crazy’
“I am furious at those people who say one team is useless and the other is incredibly strong, because that’s what you see on social media. Reading things like that drives me crazy!” the thirtysomething contestant says indignantly.
“This is an All Stars season, so we all have reasons to be here, we all have different abilities. What I see is that every challenge has been extremely close. I think the yellows lacked confidence, we lacked communication, certainly, but that doesn’t mean the individuals within the team are weaker.”
And on that point, it is difficult to argue with her, as the challenges have almost always been fiercely contested.
A Costly Strategic Misstep
While Charlotte refuses to acknowledge any error in assembling her team — initially composed of Camille, Christina, Lola, Nicolas, Vincent, and Yassin — the Belgian contestant does admit that her visible closeness with Lola and Camille proved counterproductive.
“Where we were not clever at all was showing from the very beginning that we got along so well with Lola and Camille, and that we were united with one another. From that point on, the other team members had every interest in getting us out.”
And that is precisely what happened. Before the introduction of the new white tribe, it remains to be seen which of Lola, Camille, Charlotte, and the two others set to be eliminated during this reunification — without ambassadors — will earn their place for the final stretch of the adventure.
