Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon has voiced disappointment over recent remarks by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, urging the veteran politician to adopt an unambiguous position against terrorism.
Speaking in Karachi, Memon said his party has itself suffered at the hands of terrorists and that he had expected firmer clarity from a leader of Fazlur Rehman’s experience, who has also faced militancy firsthand.
Criticism of PTI’s Record
The senior provincial minister turned his fire on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, alleging that the party lost power because of what he described as a soft corner for terrorists. He claimed that bloodshed continued and young men kept being martyred while the PTI founder spoke of opening offices for militants.
Memon said PTI is now facing the consequences of its own decisions.
Kundi Echoes Disappointment
The remarks follow similar criticism from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who said the provincial government can be formed and run without the JUI-F chief. Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Kundi expressed deep disappointment over Fazlur Rehman’s recent speech and rejected his stance on the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.
Kundi added that he had not expected such remarks from a senior politician, widening the rift between the JUI-F leadership and its erstwhile political allies.
