The National Accountability Bureau’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter has moved forward with an inquiry into allegations of assets beyond known sources of income, corruption and corrupt practices, issuing notices under Section 19 of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.
The inquiry involves Dr Amjad Ali, a member of the provincial assembly and Special Assistant on Housing to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s dysfunctional Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, according to Dunya News.
Witnesses Called Over Three Days
NAB has summoned four witnesses — Bacha Syed, Muhammad Arif Shah, Siraj Ahmed and Naveed Ahmed — to record their statements and produce relevant documents between October 20 and 22.
Property and Salary Records Sought
The bureau has also requested records concerning the allotment, ownership and payments of plots linked to Islamabad’s Eighteen Housing Society and the Jalozai Housing Scheme.
- Records on plot allotment, ownership and payments at Eighteen Housing Society, Islamabad.
- Records on plot allotment, ownership and payments under the Jalozai Housing Scheme.
- Salary, allowance, incentive and travel expense records from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Accounts Department.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Accounts Department has been directed to furnish details of Dr Amjad Ali’s salary, allowances, incentives and travel expenses.
Warning on Non-Compliance
NAB warned that legal action, including prosecution, may be initiated against the relevant individuals if the requested records are not provided.
The bureau noted that the inquiry remains focused on the allegations under investigation and that the issuance of summons notices does not, in itself, establish wrongdoing.
