ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s scheduled visit to Peshawar on Tuesday was cancelled owing to his official engagements, according to sources, shelving what was intended to be a broad review of the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The prime minister had been expected to receive a comprehensive briefing on the overall situation in the province, covering law and order, administrative affairs and ongoing development projects.
High-Level Governor House Meeting Also Shelved
Sources said a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister had also been planned at the Governor House in Peshawar to review key provincial challenges and recent developments. That meeting was called off alongside the visit itself.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were scheduled to accompany the prime minister during the trip, underscoring the significance of the planned deliberations.
Agenda Centred on Security and Development
The aborted visit was to focus on several core areas of provincial governance:
- An assessment of the law and order situation across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- A review of administrative affairs in the province
- An appraisal of ongoing development projects
- Discussion of key provincial challenges and recent developments
Sources attributed the cancellation to the prime minister’s commitments but provided no further details about a possible rescheduled visit. It remains unclear when the planned briefing and the Governor House meeting will be reconvened.
