In a significant development, the government of Punjab has appointed the esteemed lawyer Amjad Pervaiz as the new Advocate General of the province, effective immediately. This decision was formalized through a notification issued by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department, which stated that Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan made the appointment in the public interest.
Amjad Pervaiz, a distinguished Supreme Court lawyer, has built a formidable reputation through his legal representation of high-profile political figures in recent years. His clientele has included prominent leaders such as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shehbaz, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and PTI leader Moonis Elahi.
Pervaiz has been at the forefront of several notable legal battles, most recently serving as the defense counsel for Prime Minister Shehbaz and his son Hamza in the Ramzan Sugar Mill case. In this case, he argued against what he described as politically motivated charges against the current premier and his son.
In addition to his defense work, Pervaiz has also represented the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a high-profile £190 million corruption case involving PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
The appointment of Amjad Pervaiz as Advocate General is expected to bring his extensive legal expertise and experience to the forefront of Punjab’s legal affairs, further solidifying his status as a leading figure in Pakistan’s legal community.
