Apple’s much-anticipated AI software, Apple Intelligence, is set to make its debut in France, marking a significant development for French-speaking Apple users. Initially released in the United States in October 2024, this generative AI technology will soon be available to users in France, bringing innovative features to iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
The journey to bring Apple Intelligence to Europe was not without its challenges. A regulatory impasse with European authorities delayed its release, as Apple worked to align the service with local laws. However, Apple has now announced that these issues have been resolved, paving the way for a phased rollout.
Starting this week, a beta version will be available to developers, followed by a public beta release a few weeks later. The full launch for all users is scheduled for April 2025, coinciding with the release of iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4. Alongside French, the AI will support several other languages, including German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish.
Apple Intelligence promises to transform the way users interact with their devices. At its core is a revamped Siri, now capable of understanding and conversing in French with enhanced contextual awareness and complex query handling. It even integrates with ChatGPT for more nuanced responses.
In addition to improved communication, Apple Intelligence enhances creative capabilities. The “Image Playground” system allows users to generate images from text descriptions, while photo editing tools now include intelligent object removal features. Users can also create personalized emojis, known as Genmoji, by describing the desired image textually.
Productivity tools also see significant upgrades. The system can now automatically summarize lengthy messages and emails, suggest intelligent text rewrites, and prioritize notifications based on importance. Furthermore, Visual Intelligence, akin to Google Lens, enables real-time translations, text-to-speech capabilities, and Google searches directly via the camera.
To access these features, users will need the latest Apple devices. Compatible iPhones include the 15 Pro, Pro Max, and the entire iPhone 16 range. For iPads, models with the A17 Pro chip or newer are required, while Mac users will need devices with an M1 chip or later. This hardware requirement supports the local processing of AI models, ensuring user data privacy.
For those eager to explore Apple Intelligence, the beta software is available for developers via Apple’s developer portal, while the public can access it through the beta.apple.com platform shortly. Apple advises users to back up data before installing beta software due to potential instability. For a more stable experience, users can wait for the final release in April.
As Apple Intelligence prepares to launch, it marks a new era of technological interaction, promising to enhance both productivity and creativity for users in France and beyond.
