Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem expressed confidence and determination ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, declaring himself in peak condition and ready to compete at the highest level. The 28-year-old javelin thrower, who set an Olympic record with a 92.97-meter throw in Paris last year, held his final training session in Lahore before departing for Japan.
“I always aim to do my best in every event,” Nadeem told reporters. “I am going to Tokyo with the same mission and high hopes. The rest is in God’s hands.”
When asked about his rivalry with India’s Neeraj Chopra, Nadeem responded, “My competition is always with myself. I am in good shape and well-prepared.”
Nadeem’s training session included throws exceeding 85 meters, signaling strong form ahead of the September 13–21 championships. He is scheduled to compete in the qualifying round on September 17, with the final set for the following day.
The athlete recently missed two Diamond League meets due to a calf injury but has since recovered under medical supervision in England. Dr. Asad Abbas Shah, one of his physicians, confirmed that Nadeem passed all fitness tests and is in optimal condition.
In a show of support, the Pakistan Olympic Association awarded Nadeem a monthly scholarship of $1,125 for 36 months leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. POA President Arif Saeed personally presented the scholarship during Nadeem’s training session.
Nadeem thanked the nation and media for their continued support and requested prayers as he aims to bring another gold medal home.
