Islamabad: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that the party is nursing its wounds after losing power. In an interview with the state television, Asif alleged that the PTI’s founder intended to subordinate the military under his party’s control.
During the interview, Khawaja Asif highlighted the significance of the Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir’s visit to the United Kingdom, emphasizing the robust diplomatic, military, and economic relations between Pakistan and the UK, which he described as exemplary across various sectors.
Asif accused the PTI of orchestrating events on May 9 and November 26 to serve nefarious purposes, which resulted in attacks on national properties and desecration of memorials dedicated to martyrs. He claimed that PTI’s political approach is self-serving, with little concern for the country’s welfare.
He further argued that unlike PTI, his party faced political retaliation without compromising the nation’s dignity, and expressed optimism that the politics of disorder will be permanently laid to rest. Asif praised the country’s progress towards stability and economic achievements, suggesting that these have unsettled PTI.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif commented that the nation is regaining its footing, and there will be no tolerance for long marches, sit-ins, or violent protests. He added that certain factions lack the ability for serious dialogue and political understanding, and that the people of Pakistan will not allow any disruption in the country’s development journey.
In related news, the Chief of Army Staff visited the UK following an invitation from General Roland Walker, where he was briefed on the British Army’s modernization projects and the Deep Recce Strike Brigade.
