Pakistan’s digital governance push has achieved a landmark milestone, as the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony confirmed it has exceeded its target of 150,000 Hajj applications within a mere eight days. The surge was facilitated exclusively through the newly launched online Hajj portal and mobile application, a system developed by the National IT Board that officials are hailing as a breakthrough in e-governance.
Seamless Digital Registration from Home
The rapid uptake underscores a successful shift away from cumbersome manual procedures. According to a ministry spokesperson, efforts to fully digitize Hajj arrangements are accelerating under the current government’s vision. The online portal and the ‘Pak Hajj’ mobile app have provided pilgrims with an easy, transparent, and swift registration facility, eliminating the need for physical visits to banks or government offices.
Public response has been overwhelmingly positive, with citizens praising the new system as an effective step toward modern governance, convenience, and enhanced transparency in the delivery of government services.
Next Phase: Complete Digitization of Payments
In line with directives from the Prime Minister, the ministry is now moving rapidly to digitize the collection of Hajj dues. Plans to fully integrate payment systems into the digital platform have entered their final stages. Once implemented, pilgrims will be able to pay their dues directly from home via the online portal or the ‘Pak Hajj’ mobile app.
A modern collection system is being introduced through One Link, ensuring that all steps—from registration to payment—can be completed with just a few clicks. This eliminates the traditional requirement for pilgrims to visit bank branches.
A Global Convenience for Overseas Pakistanis
Experts note that this digital model is emerging as a significant convenience for the Pakistani diaspora. The system enables overseas Pakistanis to complete Hajj registration, check application status, and pay dues easily from any part of the world. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has also rolled out several new features on the portal and app, allowing applicants to instantly access their application status, registration details, and other essential information with a single click.
