Retired Bordeaux fullback Nans Ducuing is set to make his television debut as a rugby analyst this weekend on Canal+. The 33-year-old, who ended his playing career in June after winning the European championship, will bring his characteristic humor and insight to coverage of France’s Top 14 league.
Ducuing shared his perspective on the upcoming season in an interview with Actu Rugby. When asked what could prevent Toulouse from securing a historic second quadruple title, he replied with a smile, “A bit chauvinistically, I was going to say Bordeaux…” He acknowledged Toulouse’s dominance but pointed to growing competition from clubs like Bordeaux and others who have strengthened their squads.
Despite his Bordeaux roots, Ducuing emphasized the need for fairness in his new role. “I won’t lie—I still have a soft spot for Bordeaux. But I’ll have to be balanced if I don’t want to get in trouble!”
He predicted Toulouse and Bordeaux would lead the standings, followed by La Rochelle, Toulon, Bayonne, and Castres in the top six. Discussing newly promoted Montauban, he noted the challenges ahead: “They’ll need to find a good druid—I’m not sure if there are any left in France!” He expressed hope that the team could defy expectations and avoid relegation, much like Vannes did last season.
On his transition from player to pundit, Ducuing said, “I’m thrilled to stay involved in rugby in a less physically demanding role. I’ll approach it with excitement, aiming to offer sharp analysis while staying true to myself.”
Ducuing’s first appearance as a Canal+ analyst will be this Sunday during the Canal Rugby Club broadcast.
