Cupertino, California – September 13, 2025 – Apple’s latest lineup, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone Air, officially went up for pre-order yesterday, with shipments expected to begin on September 19. However, potential buyers are facing an unwelcome surprise as Apple has updated its repair service pricing, revealing a substantial increase for one of the most common repairs: the iPhone 17 screen.
Replacing the screen on the standard iPhone 17 will now cost customers €405, a significant jump of €66 compared to the iPhone 16’s screen replacement fee of €339. This makes accidental damage to the display of the base iPhone 17 considerably more expensive to fix.
The hike in cost is attributed to a key technical upgrade. For the first time, the standard iPhone 17 model now features a 120Hz LTPO display. This advanced screen technology, previously reserved for Pro models, offers superior fluidity and responsiveness but comes with a higher manufacturing and replacement cost compared to the 60Hz panels used in previous base models.
While the increased screen cost for the iPhone 17 stands out, an analysis of Apple’s updated repair list shows that many other repair prices have remained consistent year-over-year between the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 series. For example, battery replacements for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 both cost €109.
Interestingly, the new iPhone Air model sees its battery replacement priced at €135, aligning it with the Pro series rather than the standard iPhone 17. This positions the Air as a premium repair tier, despite its potentially less robust battery capacity compared to some Pro counterparts.
Consumers opting for the new iPhone 17 are advised to exercise extra caution to protect their device’s screen, as a repair could now significantly drain their wallet.
