Dominant Chase Secures Eight-Wicket Win
Islamabad United delivered a clinical performance to secure a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Karachi Kings in the 25th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium. Chasing a modest target of 151, the three-time champions reached their goal with 24 balls to spare, losing only two wickets in a display of batting supremacy.
Opening Partnership Sets the Tone
The foundation for United’s successful chase was laid by a blistering 93-run opening stand between Sameer Minhas and Devon Conway. Minhas was particularly aggressive, scoring a rapid 58 off just 36 deliveries, including 10 boundaries, before being stumped off the bowling of Kings’ stand-in captain Moeen Ali. His innings earned him the Player of the Match award.
Devon Conway provided steady support and remained unbeaten on 53 from 36 balls, hitting six fours and a six. After a brief stumble that saw Mohammad Faiq dismissed for 5, captain Shadab Khan joined Conway to seal the victory with an unbroken 43-run partnership. Shadab finished with a quickfire 31 not out from 16 deliveries.
Bowling Restricts Kings to 150/6
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to field, Islamabad United’s bowlers kept the Karachi Kings batting lineup in check. Despite a fighting unbeaten 51 from 44 balls by Reeza Hendricks, the Kings could only manage 150 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Jason Roy, returning to PSL after a year, contributed a brisk 39, but regular wickets prevented the Kings from building substantial momentum. Richard Gleeson and captain Shadab Khan were the pick of the bowlers for United, each claiming two wickets. Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Hasnain chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Key Performances and Match Impact
The victory underscores Islamabad United’s balanced attack, with both batting and bowling units firing in unison. For Karachi Kings, the loss highlights ongoing struggles with consistency, as their batting lineup failed to post a competitive total despite Hendricks’ effort.
This result has significant implications for the PSL 11 points table, strengthening Islamabad United’s position in the tournament as they push for a playoff spot.
