Islamabad: Judicial Commission Seeks Nomination of Four Additional Judges for Lahore High Court
The Judicial Commission has taken a significant step by requesting nominations for four additional judges to be appointed at the Lahore High Court. This move comes in light of the commission’s meeting scheduled for February 6, where members were tasked with sending in names for the nomination of additional judges. In a letter issued by the commission, it was clarified that the appointment of additional judges at the Lahore High Court will be made from the district courts. Names are to be collected by February 13 in this regard. The purpose of this action by the Judicial Commission is to address the shortage of judges in the courts and improve the efficiency of the judicial system.
Meanwhile, Supreme Court judges have also sent an important letter, requesting to halt the appointment of new judges until a decision is reached in the constitutional amendment case. Justices Mansoor Ali Shah, Manzoor Akhtar, Ayesha Malik, and Athar Minallah stated in the letter that if the current constitutional bench hears the case, public trust could be further undermined. On the other hand, a member of the PTI has demanded the postponement of the Judicial Commission’s meeting. Ali Zafar wrote to the Chief Justice, citing changes in the seniority list of the Islamabad High Court due to the transfer of judges, suggesting that it would be appropriate to postpone the commission’s meeting until the matter is resolved. These developments reflect ongoing changes in the judicial system, and it remains to be seen how these issues will be resolved in the coming days.
