A Public Step in a Private Battle
Julie, a beloved former contestant of M6’s adventure show “Pekin Express,” has shared a powerful and emotional milestone in her fight against breast cancer. In a video posted to her Instagram on Monday, February 2nd, the mother from Corsica documented the moment she had her head completely shaved.
The video, which has been viewed by her over 214,000 followers, shows a hairdresser first cutting her hair short before using clippers. In a poignant moment, Julie comforts her young daughter who approaches, saying, “It’s okay, it’s to get better,” before kissing her on the forehead.
From Apprehension to Relief
Accompanying the video, Julie wrote a caption expressing a sense of resolve. “Ready for what comes next. The moment I feared the most is finally a relief: that this step is over, that the treatment is underway, that the fight continues,” she stated.
Julie, who won the “All-Stars” edition of Pekin Express in 2020 with her then-partner Denis after being a finalist in 2013, revealed her breast cancer diagnosis to the public in November.
Wave of Support from Reality TV Community and Followers
The response was immediate and overwhelming. Within 24 hours, the video garnered over 100,000 likes and thousands of supportive comments from fans and fellow television personalities alike.
Claude Dartois, a multiple finalist of “Koh-Lanta,” commented, “Head high and heart valiant, with all my heart with you Julie.” Winner of the same show, Clémence Castel, added, “You are magnificent, it’s by facing one battle after another that we win the war. I have so much admiration for you.”
Other reality stars, including Ambre from “Familles Nombreuses” and influencer Jessica Bertola, praised her strength and beauty, noting the courage it took to reassure her child while undergoing the emotional process.
Gratitude for a “Weapon” in the Fight
Deeply moved by the outpouring, Julie thanked her followers in an Instagram Story. “Know that I read every comment under this video. I received a wave of love and kindness that overwhelmed me,” she shared.
She described the support as an essential tool in her journey. “Thanks to my social networks, I am supported and accompanied like never before… All these comments are an additional weapon in the battle against cancer.”
A Reminder on Breast Cancer Awareness
Julie’s public battle brings attention to breast cancer, the most common cancer in France. Public health authorities emphasize that early detection is crucial, with a 90% cure rate when the disease is caught at a localized stage. Women are encouraged to begin screenings from age 25 with a general practitioner, gynecologist, or midwife.
