Nanterre Prosecutor Launches Investigation into Death of Abdullah Diaw at Bagneux Police Station
Following the tragic death of 34-year-old Abdullah Diaw at the Bagneux police station, the Nanterre prosecutor has initiated an investigation. The incident unfolded on December 10, 2023, when Diaw was taken into custody on allegations of violating drug laws. Two days later, his condition deteriorated during custody, leading to his transfer to a hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his illness.
The prosecutor revealed that initial investigations have been entrusted to the National Police’s Inspector General. The preliminary post-mortem report indicated that Diaw’s death was due to bronchopneumonia, which could be a consequence of drug intoxication. The report dismissed the possibility of any fatal injuries.
It was disclosed that Diaw underwent multiple medical and psychiatric examinations at the beginning of his custody, deemed suitable according to his condition. However, his family insists that his health was not stable enough to be held in custody, attributing his death to several serious oversights.
The family has lodged a complaint against unidentified individuals for involuntary manslaughter and fatal violence in connection with Diaw’s death, demanding a thorough investigation. In a related development, a white march is scheduled to be held in Bagneux on Sunday at 2 p.m. in memory of Diaw, who was a resident there.
The incident has sparked concerns, grief, and anger among the residents, leading to some minor disturbances in the local area. Several graffiti tributes have also been created on the city walls in memory of Diaw. The affected families and the public are closely following further investigations and legal actions in this case.
