Pakistan Government Denies Civil-Military Rift, Calls Speculation “Baseless Mischief”

Government Rejects Rumors of Civil-Military Rift, Affirms Strong Ties with Army Leadership

Senior Official Dismisses Social Media Rumors

The federal government has issued a categorical rejection of speculation about alleged cracks between the civil and military leadership, labeling such claims as “baseless” and “misleading.” The strong denial comes amid rumors circulating on social media and in political circles regarding the government’s relationship with Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Clarification on Leadership Relations

Dr. Tauqir Shah, former principal secretary to the prime minister and a close cabinet aide, stated emphatically that there is “no truth in any of the rumours.” He firmly dismissed suggestions that notifications concerning the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) were being delayed due to any differences between the institutions.

“There is no crack between the civil and military leadership,” Dr. Shah told The News, adding that the working relationship remains “smooth and fully aligned.”

Nawaz Sharif’s Regard for Military Leadership

Dr. Shah provided specific clarification regarding Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s position, noting that Sharif holds Field Marshal Asim Munir in high regard. According to Shah, Sharif has “repeatedly praised him for his professionalism, commitment, and service to the state.”

The former official further pointed out that Nawaz Sharif had voted in favor of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, reflecting his continued support for the institutional framework and military leadership.

Call for Stability and Unity

Terming all rumors about strained ties as “mere mischief and rumour mongering,” Dr. Shah argued that speculative narratives serve no purpose except to create confusion at a time when stability and unity are essential for the nation.

He emphasized that both the elected government and military leadership share a “uniquely harmonious relationship” that is “immaculately aligned for achievement of national priorities and objectives.” Any insinuation otherwise, he concluded, is completely unfounded.
